The world’s leading dairy company Arla Foods, is building a new modern innovation centre for the ingredients business in Nr. Vium, Denmark. The new innovation centre will intensify the company’s efforts and take dairy and whey ingredients to the next level to meet the need for nutritious and sustainable food. The new AFI Innovation centre is expected to open in the middle of 2021.

The centre will be a 9,000 square metre state-of-the-art facility. The Innovation centre will have an open office space, labs, and a pilot plant. It would enhance the close interaction between the new AFI Innovation Centre and Danmark Protein to create a unique environment for process development and pilot production to unleash all the wonders of whey.

Arla Foods subsidiary Arla Foods Ingredients (AFI) has transformed whey from what was once considered a waste product to premium, high-quality ingredients used for infant nutrition, clinical nutrition, sports nutrition, and health foods.

The major investments and expansions news by Arla Foods are mentioned below:

  • November 2019: Arla foods announced the investment of $88 million to double the production of mozzarella at Branderup Dairy plant in Denmark. The new and more sustainable technology will help increase production in the plant. The expansion will create approximately 25 new jobs. Arla’s mozzarella production in Denmark is shipped to 100 countries.
  • October 2019: Arla Foods inaugurated a cheese production site in Bahrain. The company has invested approximately $55 million for the plant. The plant has created around 100 direct jobs in the local market. Bahrain is an Arla’s key strategic manufacturing hub in MENA region.
  • September 2119: Arla Foods in public-private partnership in Nigeria committed to developing a long-term sustainable dairy industry. The company’s partnership would help 1,000 small scale farmers and create a better livelihood while strengthening the company’s business in the country
  • July 2019: Arla Foods agreed on a new brand license for cheese business in Middle East region with Kraft Heinz. The agreement gives Arla Foods license to use the Kraft brand for the next 12 years in the Middle East markets. The markets covered in the agreement include UAE, Mauritius, Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Yemen, and the Seychelles.
