Functional ingredients manufacturer BENEO plans to invest $56 million to double its production capacity at its Wijgmaal facility in Belgium. The expansion helps to meet rising customer demand for its rice starches.

  • Rice starch is capable of filling up all of the micropores on the surface of coatings due to its very fine particle size. This so-called “smoothing effect” is especially beneficial for confectionery manufacturers.
  • A two-stage expansion process valued at $56 million, will lead to increased capacity by March 2022.

In March 2020, BENEO, had announced a significant expansion for its chicory root fibre production facility in Chile by 2022, funded by an investment of more than $56 million. The news comes following rising demand for BENEO’s chicory root fibres, inulin and oligofructose, as consumer interest in digestive health continues to grow.

In September 2019, BENEO, had invested $5 million into a new production plant for vegetal protein in Wanze, Belgium. The plant is part of the existing BioWanze factory, a modern biorefinery producing food, feed and ethanol.
