Functional ingredients manufacturer BENEO plans to invest $56 million to double its production capacity at its Wijgmaal facility in Belgium. The expansion helps to meet rising customer demand for its rice starches.
- Rice starch is capable of filling up all of the micropores on the surface of coatings due to its very fine particle size. This so-called smoothing effect is especially beneficial for confectionery manufacturers.
- A two-stage expansion process valued at $56 million, will lead to increased capacity by March 2022.
In March 2020, BENEO, had announced a significant expansion for its chicory root fibre production facility in Chile by 2022, funded by an investment of more than $56 million. The news comes following rising demand for BENEOs chicory root fibres, inulin and oligofructose, as consumer interest in digestive health continues to grow.
In September 2019, BENEO, had invested $5 million into a new production plant for vegetal protein in Wanze, Belgium. The plant is part of the existing BioWanze factory, a modern biorefinery producing food, feed and ethanol.
BENEO is one of the prominent manufacturers of functional ingredients and part of the Südzucker Group one of the leading food producers in Europe. It offers ingredients derived from chicory roots, beet sugar, rice and wheat.
