The mobility and train technology leader Bombardier Transportation has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from India’s National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to build and deliver commuter and intracity cars for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut semi-high-speed rail corridor. The contract also includes comprehensive maintenance services of trains under the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).

The Award by NCRTC is valued at approximately $340 million and the customer has a provision to exercise an option of additional 90 cars and two years of maintenance. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut semi-high-speed rail corridor project detail includes:

• With an expected ridership of 800,000 a day, India’s first semi-high-speed rail corridor will connect Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut with a new 82km line
• Travel time be reduced by 75 per cent enabling passengers from Delhi to reach Meerut in less than 60 minutes

•India’s first rail project to include maintenance scope as part of rolling stock tender process

In February 2020: Bombardier has announced the expansion of its London Biggin Hill service centre, in the U.K. The new service centre is expected to operational in mid-2022.The new 250,000 square feet service centre will replace the company’s existing hangars and it will provide extended maintenance support and reinforce Bombardier’s customer service experience in the region.
