To boost the production of chip, Bosch is investing in Dresden, Germany to build a new chip factory. In the new Bosch semiconductor factory, silicon wafers are fully automated for the first time. The production will start by the end of 2021.
- In the future, the completely digitized and highly networked semiconductor factory will primarily be used to build microchips for cars.
- The company already operates a semiconductor factory in Reutlingen near Stuttgart. With the new wafer fab in Dresden, Bosch is expanding its manufacturing capacities for the ever-increasing fields of semiconductor applications.
- Bosch will start the first production runs of highly complex integrated circuits. Then the wafers go through around 700 process steps on the way to the finished semiconductor chip in more than ten weeks.
In May 2020, Bosch in fight against the corona virus, has started the production of respiratory masks. The company puts fully automated systems for mask production into operation. Five fully automated production lines at four Bosch locations worldwide are producing mouth-to-nose covers to protect against infections.
In January 2020, Bosch announced that it has increased its stake in Ceres Power from 3.9 percent to around 18 percent. To increase its stake, Bosch subscribes to new Ceres Power shares and acquires additional shares from existing shareholders. Bosch is investing a total of approximately $96 million.
In November 2019, Bosch and xarvio Digital Farming Solutions from BASF will further expand their collaboration in the area of digital solutions for agriculture. To this end, the companies have founded a project house in which they will in future also summarize the joint research and development activities.
