The global energy leader bp announced its intention to invest approximately $70 million into the Green Growth Equity Fund (GGEF) in India. The GGEF is focused on identifying, investing and supporting growth in zero carbon and low carbon energy solutions in India.

  • With this investment bp will become a limited partner in GGEF and have representation on its advisory committee, as well as the rights to co-invest in projects alongside GGEF.
  • GGEF already includes investments from the Government of India, through the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), and the UK Government, through the Department for International Development (DfID).

The recent investments and deals by BP are featured below:

June 2020: bp has agreed to sell its global petrochemicals business to INEOS for approximately $5 billion. bp’s petrochemicals business is focused on two main businesses – aromatics and acetyls.

January 2020, BP, has agreed to sell its interests in the Andrew area in the central UK North Sea and its non-operating interest in the Shearwater field to Premier Oil for approximately $625 million.

December 2019, BP and India’s Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) signed an agreement to form an Indian fuels and mobility joint venture. The JV includes fuel retail service station network across India and aviation fuel marketing business.

December 2019, BP along with Bunge, formed a Brazilian bioenergy joint venture “BP Bunge Bioenergia” that combines their Brazilian bioenergy and sugarcane ethanol businesses in the country. The new joint venture has 11 biofuels sites in five Brazilian states, with more than 10,000 employees.

December 2019, BP signed a sustainable energy agreement with Amazon Web Services to supply 170 MW of renewable energy each year. The Company will supply renewable energy to the European data centres that drive the AWS cloud platform
