The international manufacturer of kitchen appliances, Breville Group, has announced its acquisition of the food company and ChefSteps technology, based in Seattle . The acquisition brings together two companies that share the mission to help home cooks to obtain perfect results, while offering an unparalleled opportunity to invest even more in growth, original content and innovation for the benefit of consumers, retailers and the ChefSteps community.

Founded in 2012, ChefSteps, with its website, has been conceived to inspire creativity and encourage experimentation in the kitchen through high-quality interactive content, techniques, tools and resources. In 2015, the company announced its expansion into the field of intelligent kitchen appliances with its Joule ™ product, the smallest and most powerful vacuum immersion circulator in the world controlled by a smartphone application that includes recipes, tips and revolutionary functions like the Visual Doneness ™, a precise vacuum control and a solid collection of recipes created by the ChefSteps team.

The acquisition of ChefSteps by Breville will enhance the long-term R & D capacity that brought the Joule ™ product to the market, which will enable a continued and sustained focus on innovation, and, at the same time, increase the international commercial scale to further maximize the value of the content platform and the Joule ™ fast-growing connected product portfolio from ChefSteps. It also forms a natural, consumer-focused extension of Breville’s existing vacuum product range, following its acquisition of the PolyScience Culinary division in 2014. Recognized for its temperature control technology and immersion circulators, PolyScience Culinary is a leader in the commercial vacuum cooking category venerated by professional chefs.

In reference to the acquisition, Breville CEO Jim Clayton explained: “ChefSteps has produced tremendous innovation in the field of content and connected devices, and we are excited about the scale we can achieve by combining their content and ownership. ChefSteps will be integrated into the Breville Group business but will maintain its offices in Seattle .

The ChefSteps business will be recognized as part of Breville’s international segment, although it is not expected to have a material impact on the group’s businesses.
