Cargill in partnership with Continental Grain Company announced to acquire Sanderson Farms for USD 4.53 billion. Cargill and Continental Grain signed a joint venture agreement for this deal. Cargill and Continental Grain will combine Sanderson Farms with Wayne Farms, a subsidiary of Continental Grain, to form a new, privately held poultry business.

  • The new company will have state-of-the-art operations and will continue to invest in its workforce and in employee safety.
  • Operations will include poultry processing plants and prepared foods plants across Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Texas.
  • The combination of Sanderson Farms and Wayne Farms will create a best-in-class U.S. poultry company with a high-quality asset base, complementary operating cultures, and an industry-leading management team and workforce.

The major partnerships and investments by Cargill are featured below:

May 2021: To strengthen baking segment, Cargill has acquired Leman Decoration Group. The acquisition significantly broadens Cargill’s offerings in the decorations space, enabling the company’s cocoa and chocolate business to better serve gourmet customers in Europe and around the world.

April 2021: To accelerate the production of canola products, Cargill plans to build a $350 million new canola processing facility in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. The new facility will be operational by early 2024. The company expects the facility will add approximately 50 full-time positions.

Feb 2021: In order to fulfil customers demand Cargill is investing in its U.S. soy processing operations, in seven states. The company invests approximately USD 475 million to improve operational efficiencies. The investment will help to modernize and expand projects across its network of crush facilities.

Jan 2021: To expand sustainable poultry production, Cargill in partnership with Heifer International announce to enlarge Hatching Hope into Kenya. Hatching Hope Kenya will sustainably improve smallholder farmer incomes and increase the awareness and availability of nutrient-rich chicken and eggs for families in Western Kenya.

Oct 2020: To promote green energy, Cargill announced the construction of its 2nd generation Biodiesel Plant from various wastes and residues at its integrated Bioro site in Ghent, Belgium. The new project will cost approximately $150 million to the company.

Sep 2020: To strengthen presence in dynamic chocolate market Cargill announced to invest $21million for a “Maison du Chocolat” at its Mouscron, in Belgium. The expansion helps to foster better product development and strengthen collaboration with his clients.

Aug 2020: To boost Indian dairy sector, Cargill opened a high-pressure hydrogenation plant in Kurkumbh, Maharashtra, India. The company has invested approximately US$ 15 million for a new bioindustrial plant in Kurkumbh.

June 2020: Cargill in partnership with a local manufacturer in western India, launched its first chocolate manufacturing operation in Asia. The new operation will help to meet consumer demand for chocolate products in the Asian market.

June 2020: Cargill had invested approximately $4 million in its site in Kalmthout (Belgium) to increase its capabilities for producing gourmet chocolate. The investment adds a fifth gourmet production line and new chocolate tanks within the existing facility, providing greater flexibility in production as well as adding 12 new jobs locally.

April 2020: Cargill Central America approved an additional contribution to CARE International of US $150,000 to reinforce the Nourishing the Future project that is being carried out in Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, in order to help solve the food security needs of some of the communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
