The global chocolate and confectionery products manufacturer Ferrero, announced that its group company Ferrero North America plans to build a new chocolate manufacturing center in Bloomington, Illinois, the USA. The expansion anticipated to create approximately 50 local jobs.
- The expansion will be Ferrero’s first chocolate production plant in North America.
- The new manufacturing center will be an expansion of Ferrero’s Bloomington facility and will allow the company to produce chocolate for Crunch,100Grand, SnoCaps, Raisinets, Goobers, Ferrero Rocher and other Ferrero products made in North America.
In Nov 2020, Ferrero announced to support the ILO to implement a 40-month project in Turkey to contribute to the elimination of the worst forms of child labour in seasonal agriculture in hazelnut harvesting.
In April 2019, The Ferrero Group announced to acquire the cookie, fruit and fruit-flavored snack, ice cream cone and pie crust businesses from Kellogg Company for $1.3 billion (or 1.16 billion at current exchange rates). These businesses generated sales of approximately $900 million in 2018.
Ferrero will acquire a strong portfolio of beloved brands in the cookie category, including the iconic cookie brand Keebler, top selling on-the-go Famous Amos cookies, the premium family cookie brand Mothers, and Murray sugar free cookies, as well as Little Brownie Bakers, supplier of cookies to the Girl Scouts.
Ferrero will also acquire the Kellogg fruit snacks business, including Stretch Island and Fruity Snacks along with Keeblers ice cream cones and pie crust products.
January 2018, The Ferrero Group and its affiliated companies announced a definitive agreement pursuant to which it will acquire the U.S. confectionary business from Nestlé for $2.8 billion in cash. Nestlés U.S. confectionary business generated sales of approximately $900 million in 2016.
