FUJIFILM Corporation, a global photography and imaging leader, has agreed to acquire Hitachi’s Diagnostic Imaging-related Business for approximately $1.6 billion to expand its healthcare profile. Fujifilm, after acquisition deal with Hitachi, will expand its Medical Systems business and create new values to contribute to improving the quality of medical care.
The acquisition of Hitachi’s Diagnostic Imaging Systems business will strengthen Fujifilm to provide a total one-stop solution that includes CT, MRI diagnostics, in-vitro diagnostics, medical IT, and endoscopy. The addition of Diagnostic Imaging will expand its capability to offer a comprehensive solution to medical & healthcare institutions. Fujifilm is a large healthcare company covering both Diagnosis and Treatment.
Fujifilm, now with picture archiving communication systems (PACS) and AI technologies, will be able to provide a new value-added solution to customers. The company will further enhance global marketing through cross-selling, utilizing the extensive sales channels of both companies.
The prominent investments by FUJIFILM in last few months are mentioned below:
- December 2019: FUJIFILM Toyama Chemical announced the completion of Japan’s first manufacturing facility of liposome formulation. The faciliity and also capable of commercial-level production, and the facility will be operational in February 2020
- December 2019: Fujifilm established a Bio Science & Engineering Laboratories in U.S.A. at Madison, Wisconsin, to start full-scale translational research for biotherapeutics.
- November 2019: FUJIFILM Toyama Chemical has entered an agreement with Appili Therapeutics for the development and marketing of T-2307, a compound for the treatment of fungal diseases.
- August 2019: FUJIFILM Corporation had completed the acquisition of Biogen (Denmark) Manufacturing ApS, a large-scale biologics manufacturing site in Copenhagen, Denmark, for approximately US$890 million.
