For the development of sustainable energy in Japan, GE Renewable Energy and Toshiba Energy Systems and Solutions Corporation have signed a strategic partnership agreement. The companies will localize critical phases of the manufacturing process of GE’s Haliade-X offshore wind turbine and to support its commercialization in Japan.

  • Based on the long-lasting relationship between GE and Toshiba in Japan and beyond, this strategic agreement will help GE’s offshore wind technology to be more competitive in upcoming auctions in Japan
  • The two companies said that they will leverage their collective technology, manufacturing facilities and skills, construction, operation, and maintenance expertise as part of the agreement.
  • Toshiba brings local manufacturing capabilities, a highly skilled workforce, strong energy domain expertise including in wind power, and an in-depth knowledge of the Japanese offshore market.

The prominent partnerships and deals by Toshiba are mentioned below:

March 2021: With an aims to expand radar-based security solutions business, Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corporation, a Toshiba Group company has announced a strategic business alliance with Fortem Technologies, Inc. and also invested USD 15 million in the company.

June 2020: Toshiba JSW Power System Pvt. Ltd. (TJPS) is a joint venture between Toshiba Corporation, Japan (Toshiba) and JSW Group, India (JSW) had pledged USD 752,000 to the Uttar Pradesh government in India to support the fight against COVID-19.

June 2020: Toshiba Corporation and its group companies and Hitachi, Ltd. and its group companies, joined in the establishment of Asahikawa Factory to start its operation early. Fujirebio Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Miraca Holdings Inc., to establish a new production base Fujirebio Asahikawa Factory in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, for the ESPLINE® series rapid diagnostic kit.

May 2020: SBS Holdings, Inc and Toshiba Corporation had signed a share purchase agreement for the transfer to SBSHD of 66.6% of Toshiba’s holding in Toshiba Logistics Corporation, Toshiba’s consolidated subsidiary in the logistics services business. The companies expect to complete necessary procedures and close the transaction in October 2020.

April 2020: Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation had received an order for two units of an approximately 14 MW hydro turbines and a control system from the Toyota Tsusho Corporation, the main contractor in a project to rehabilitate the Sedawgyi Hydropower Plant being undertaken by the Myanmar Ministry of Electricity and Energy-affiliated Electric Power Generation Enterprise.
