GE Renewable Energy has received the official planning approval for its Teesside offshore wind blade manufacturing plant from the Local Planning Authorities. The facility will create an additional 1,500 indirect jobs in the region.

  • This is the first major milestone in the lead up to the construction of this state-of-the art facility on the South Bank of Teesworks.
  • The plant construction should begin later in 2021 upon the finalization of all contractual documents.
  • LM Wind Power will operate the facility which will be dedicated to the production of its 107-meter- long offshore wind turbine blades, a key component of GE’s Haliade-X.

The major contracts and expansions by GE Renewable Energy are featured below:

July 2021: GE Renewable Energy has entered into a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with Whiffle for application of ultra-fine atmospheric Large Eddy Simulation (LES) modeling for GE’s wind energy applications. Netherlands-based Whiffle is a leading weather forecasting technology firm.

June 2021: GE Renewable Energy, which provides end-to-end wind energy solutions, has secured one of the largest onshore wind farm contracts from BIM Wind JSC in South-east Asia. As per contract GE will supply, install and commission GE Cypress onshore wind turbines for BIM Wind’s 88 MW wind farm located in Ninh Thu?n Province, South Central Vietnam.

May 2021: Luxembourg based Foresight Energy Infrastructure Partners (“FEIP”) develops 88 MW onshore wind farm in Finland. As per contract GE will supply 16 of its 5.5 MW-158 Cypress turbines, its largest onshore wind turbine in the field.

May 2021: For the development of sustainable energy in Japan, GE Renewable Energy and Toshiba Energy Systems and Solutions Corporation have signed a strategic partnership agreement. The companies will localize critical phases of the manufacturing process of GE’s Haliade-X offshore wind turbine and to support its commercialization in Japan.

Feb 2021: For the development of the sustainable green energy in Vietnam, GE Renewable Energy has been awarded a wind farm contract by Ocean Renewable Energy Joint Stock Company. As per contract GE will supply a total of 15 of GE’s 4 MW-137 wind turbines to support construction of the Cau Dat Wind Farm, the first wind farm in Lâm ??ng Province, Vietnam.

Dec 2020: The global renewable energy company GE Renewable Energy has been selected by Azora of Spain to supply 19 Cypress onshore wind turbines for the 100 MW Cuevas de Velasco wind farm located in the Cuenca province of the country.

May 2020: The leading Renewable energy firm GE Renewable Energy announced that it has been selected by POWERICA Ltd to supply 38 of its 2.7-132 onshore wind turbines to be installed at the Rajkot and Khambaliya wind farms in Gujarat, India. GE Renewable Energy and POWERICA will jointly provide energy to Gujarat.

February 2020: GE Renewable Energy had received an order from the EDF-SITAC joint venture to supply and install 112 of its 2.7 MW wind turbines with 132m rotor at the Sitac Kabini wind farm in Gujarat, India. The company’s 2.7-132 turbine has been designed primarily at GE’s Technology Centre in Bangalore, India.

February 2020: GE Renewable Energy’s Grid Solutions business had been awarded $2.5 million to fund the development of a sulfur hexafluoride (SF6)-free, 420 kiloVolt (kV) 63 kilo Amps (kA) gas-insulated substation (GIS) circuit-breaker by the European Commission’s LIFE climate action program.

January 2020: GE Renewable Energy announced that it had been nominated by OX2 as the supplier for the 132 MW Metsälamminkangas wind farm, in Finland. The project, which will use 24 of GE’s Cypress onshore wind platform, represents GE’s first Cypress-equipped wind farm in Finland.
