General Mills, to boost pet food portfolio has agreed to acquire Tyson Foods’ pet treats business for $1.2 billion. As per deal General Mills is also acquiring a manufacturing facility in Independence, Iowa.

  • The deal includes the business of Nudges, Top Chews and True Chews brands, which is a leader in natural meat treats for pets.
  • Pet food is a high-growth category, fueled by the humanization of pets, a trend that has only increased during the pandemic.

The prominent deals and expansions by General Mills are featured below:

March 2021: The global food company General Mills, announced that it had entered into a memorandum of understanding to sell its 51 percent controlling interest in Yoplait S.A.S. to a leading French dairy cooperative Sodiaal. Yoplait S.A.S. operates yogurt businesses in various countries.

Feb 2021: The granola bars of General Mills, Nature Valley launches the first plastic film wrapper designated as Store Drop-Off recyclable by How2Recycle with the brand’s iconic Crunchy granola bar. The newly packaged bars are on shelves this spring and bring Nature Valley closer to achieving its commitment to 100% recyclable packaging by 2025.

Aug 2020: Musim Mas Group and General Mills launched a joint program to build robust and sustainable extension services for the oil palm farmers in Aceh Singkil, Indonesia. Targeted at independent smallholders from villages neighboring the Leuser Ecosystem, the two parties will collaborate to integrate smallholder growers into the sustainable palm oil supply chain and reduce deforestation

June 2020: General Mills, the maker of Yoplait, Liberté and Mountain High yogurt products, announced the start of a three-year regenerative dairy pilot in western Michigan, a key sourcing region for its fluid milk supply.

June 2019: Blue Buffalo, the nation’s largest natural pet food brand, announced the opening of its newest manufacturing plant, a $200 million facility in Richmond, Indiana. Part of the General Mills family of brands, Blue Buffalo products are made with natural ingredients and specifically formulated to provide dogs and cats with superior nutrition.
