The global vehicle manufacturer General Motors Co. announced transition of its Spring Hill, Tennessee assembly plant to become the company’s third vehicle manufacturing site to produce electric vehicles which includes Cadillac LYRIQ. The company will invest $2 billion for the upgradation six U.S. facility.

  • In addition, the company is confirming investments in five Michigan plants, including the Lansing Delta Township Assembly and Flint Assembly for future crossover and full-size pickup production.
  • The all-new Cadillac LYRIQ will be the first EV produced at Spring Hill.
  • Production of the Cadillac XT6 and XT5 will continue at Spring Hill.

    The prominent investments and partnerships by General Motors are featured below:

    Sep 2020: General Motors plans to invest approximately $71 million into two Ohio manufacturing facilities. The expansion will enable GM to retain 240 good-paying U.S. manufacturing jobs.

    Sept 2020: To fight the COVID-19 pandemic, General Motors and Ventec Life Systems completes the delivery of 30,000 V+Pro critical care ventilator to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

    April 2020: In response to COVID-19 General Motors announced the first delivery of VOCSN V+Pro critical care ventilators, produced in collaboration with Ventec Life Systems at Kokomo, Indiana facility. The ventilators supplied to Franciscan Health Olympia Fields in Olympia Fields, Illinois and Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago at the direction of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

    April 2020: General Motors in response to COVID-19 pandemic announced that it partnered with Ventec Life Systems to build VOCSN critical care ventilators at GM’sKokomo, Indiana manufacturing facility. The partnership will help Ventec to increase the production at their manufacturing facility in Bothell, Washington.

    March 2020: General Motors announced addition of more than 1,200 jobs at its Lansing manufacturing operations to meet customer demand for popular mid-size SUVs. The expansion of labour force will also support the launch of two all-new Cadillac sedans.

    January 2020: General Motors (GM) is expanding in Michigan, USA. The company is investing $2.2 billion at its Detroit- Hamtramck assembly plant to produce a variety of all-electric trucks and SUVs. Post this investment, once the plant is fully operational, around 2,200 new manufacturing jobs will be created for locals. With this investment, Detroit-Hamtramck will be the GM’s first fully-dedicated electric vehicle assembly plant.

    January 2020: Hong Kong-based Great Wall Motors (GWM) announced an agreement with GM for the sale of GM India’s Talegaon manufacturing facility. The transaction will support the GWM’s plan to enter and invest in India. Great Wall Motors will officially debut its Haval brand and GWM EV in the Indian automotive market.
