India’s leading telecom firm Bharti Airtel has announced that IBM and Red Hat will build its new telco network cloud, designed to make it more efficient, flexible and future-ready to support core operations and enable new digital services.

As per agreement Airtel will build its next generation core network, analytical tools and new consumer and enterprise services on top of this cloud platform based on open standards in India.

•With the new network cloud, Airtel intends to deliver a better customer experience through enhanced network performance, improved availability, operations automation and scaling the network to the edge.

•This is designed to reduce latency and improve bandwidth availability and automation, thereby strengthening the overall quality of the network.

The major investments and deals by IBM are featured below:

  • February 2020: IBM has announced a strategic investment in a leading global quantum computing company Cambridge Quantum Computing (CQC). The latest investment comes after years of collaboration between CQC and IBM’s quantum computing team.
  • January 2020: IBM announced the opening of its Automation Innovation Center (AIC) in India at the company’s Pune facility. The AIC is a state-of-the-art facility themed around Intelligent Automation and Future of Work, with experiential demonstration centers showcasing IBM’s flagship Automation Platform, Digital Worker suite of solutions, Automation Operations Command Center for monitoring and managing bots, and co-creation zone for quick Design Thinking with visiting clients. The new AIC also showcases industry vertical solutions for Banking, Telco, Insurance, Retail, CPG, Healthcare etc.

December 2019: IBM collaborated with Vodafone Idea Business Services (VIBS) the enterprise arm of Vodafone Idea Ltd. (VIL), in India to launch Vodafone Secure Device Manager (VSDM), powered by IBM Security MaaS360, a Unified End-point Management (UEM). As per agreement with Vodafone, VIBS will leverage IBM Security MaaS360 to deliver an AI approach to UEM to enable endpoints, end-users, and everything in between including apps, content, and data.

October 2019: IBM, TBCASoft, and SoftBank Corp. announced a strategic collaboration to support the transformation of the telecommunications industry intended to use cross-carrier blockchain technology designed to enable new synergies throughout the industry, provide new services to telecom carriers and their subscribers across the world.
