To modernise the fleet, the Lufthansa Group announced to purchase five 787-9 Dreamliners from Boeing. The new order helps to reduce complexity in its long-haul fleet and improve overall environmental performance.

  • The additional 787-9 Dreamliners is more fuel-efficient widebody jets
    • The newe Dreamliners built with lightweight composite materials and powered by advanced engines and a suite of environment-friendly technologies.
  • The 787 family has an airport-noise footprint that is 60% smaller than the previous generation of 767 airplanes, making it ideal for Lufthansa Group airport communities.

In April 2020, the leading airline carrier Lufthansa announced that Lufthansa Cargo aircraft carrying eight million protective masks landed in Munich, amid COVID-19 pandemic. The Boeing 777F, named “Olá Brazil”, of Lufthansa airlines brings eight million masks which were packed in 4,000 cartons, weighing 26 tons all together.

In January 2020, Lufthansa Group and Silicon Valley based Travel Management Company TripActions announced a strategic partnership during the DLD conference. The two companies are set to proactively shape the distribution and corporate retailing landscape of the future digital era of Travel Management Companies. To manifest this multifaceted collaboration, Lufthansa Group acquired a minority stake in the business travel innovator through its digital business unit Lufthansa Innovation Hub in December 2019.
This makes Lufthansa Group the first strategic investor of TripActions.

In January 2020, eDreams ODIGEO, Europe’s largest online travel company and one of the largest European e-commerce businesses, and Lufthansa Group airlines, one of the world’s leading airline groups, announced that they have signed a new distribution agreement based on IATA’s New Distribution Capability (NDC).
