The leading science electronic company Merck, plans to build one of its most comprehensive Electronics Technology Centers in China. The new Electronics Technology Center will host capabilities for analytics, application testing and sampling for electronic materials.

  • The 3,300 square meter facility will be located at the company’s Jinqiao hub in Shanghai.
  • Merck China has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Shanghai Pudong Government on this strategic investment today at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2020.
  • The opening of the technology center with an investment of $20 million is planned for the first half of 2022

    The prominent acquisitions and investments by Merck are featured below:

    Oct 2020: Merck announced to invest $23 million to expand its OLED (organic light-emitting diode) manufacturing capacity at its sites in Pyeongtaek, Korea and Shanghai, China. The investment will enhance local manufacturing capacities as well as strengthen the company’s position as key supplier of high-purity OLED materials for panel makers in Asia.

    Oct 2020: Merck, announced to invest approximately $164 million for a new membrane production facility in Darmstadt, Germany. The expansion will create about 55 new jobs in the region.

    Sep 2020: Merck, announced to invest approximately $70 million to expand its HPAPI and ADC manufacturing capabilities and capacity at its facility near Madison, Wisconsin, USA.

    May 2020: Merck, announced its investment in a neuromorphic computing startup SynSense, based in China and Switzerland. The deal will boost Merck’s presence in Chinese artificial intelligence market.

    January 2020: Merck, had announced an investment of $275 million for a new Biotech Development Center in Switzerland. The new facility will be located in Corsier-sur-Vevey, Switzerland. Merck’s new center will be devoted to biotech development and manufacturing for clinical studies.

    • The R&D investment by the company will help secure capacity and high agility to deliver clinical trial material cost-effectively. The development center will contribute to accelerate the timelines for new biological entities, and address the increasing manufacturing complexity of the next generations of biotech compounds.
