For the development of hydrogen energy in UAE, Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Snam. Italy based Snam, is one of the world’s leading energy infrastructure operator and a subsidiary of global energy company Eni.

  • The MoU aims to collaborate on joint investment and development initiatives on hydrogen.
  • As part of the agreement, the two companies will carry out a number of assessment activities, including technical and economic feasibility studies to explore potential projects and solutions to foster and promote hydrogen development in the UAE, and elsewhere globally.

The prominent investments and deals by Mubadala are featured below:

Jan 2021: To accelerate digital economy the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), alongside Mubadala Investment Company (UAE) and a number of leading sovereign wealth funds of the Middle East, announced completion of their joint investment in AliExpress Russia JV (AER JV).

Nov 2020: Mubadala, announced that it becomes a minority shareholder in the Abu Dhabi-based Group42 (G42), an artificial intelligence and cloud computing company.

Aug 2020: Philadelphia based PCI Pharma Services (PCI) announced that a leading private equity firm Kohlberg and investing firm Mubadala Investment has signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake PCI for an undisclosed sum.

June 2020: Reliance Industries Limited and Jio Platforms Limited, India’s leading digital services platform, announced that Mubadala Investment Company, the Abu Dhabi-based sovereign investor, will invest $1.2B USD in Jio Platforms at an equity value of $65B USD and an enterprise value of $68B USD (AED 250B). Mubadala’s investment will translate into a 1.85% equity stake in Jio Platforms on a fully diluted basis.

March 2020: Mubadala Investment Company, and OMV, the international integrated oil and gas company headquartered in Vienna, had signed an agreement that will give OMV a majority stake in Borealis, one of Europe’s leading petrochemical companies. OMV, which currently owns a 36% stake in Borealis, will acquire an additional 39% from Mubadala.

March 2020: Mubadala Investment Company announced that it had joined Silver Lake and other investors including the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Magna International, and Andreessen Horowitz as part of a consortium to invest a total of $2.25bn in Waymo, the self-driving technology company owned by Alphabet, the parent company of Google.
