Nokia plans to acquire USA-based Elenion Technologies, a silicon photonics technology company. After the transaction Elenion’s technology and expertise will enable Nokia to expand its market footprint by addressing the critical and rapidly evolving optical connectivity requirements of 5G, cloud and enterprise networking.

New York based Elenion Technologies is a leading developer of highly integrated, low-cost silicon photonics technologies for short-reach and high-performance optical interfaces. Elenion’s platform helps in integration with optical chipsets, lowers power consumption, improves port density and also helps to lower the overall cost per bit for network operators.

The prominent partnerships and deals by Nokia are featured below:

February 2020: Nokia extended its partnership with French mobile operator, IIiad Group, to roll out 5G networks across France and Italy. The new 5G agreement will focus on network modernization and 5G introduction in France and in Italy making 5G available to 17 million IIiad subscribers across both countries.

January 2020: Nokia has announced that it has been selected by Orange France, one of the largest mobile operators in Europe, to evolve its mobile access network towards 5G. Nokia will provide a range of products and services to end-to-end 5G portfolio Orange.

November 2019: Nokia announced a strategic collaboration with Microsoft to accelerate transformation and innovation across industries with cloud, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT). By bringing together Microsoft cloud solutions and Nokia’s expertise in mission-critical networking, the companies are uniquely positioned to help enterprises and communications service providers (CSPs) transform their businesses.

 October 2019: Nokia announced a partnership with leading telecommunications service provider Hutchison 3 Indonesia (3ID) to provide IoT coverage to enterprises in Indonesia. The contract helps in utilizing the fully virtualized Nokia Worldwide IoT Network Grid (WING) managed service offer, 3ID and its Indonesian enterprise customers across various industries to launch end-to-end IoT solutions quickly, reliably and affordably.
