To drive 5G innovation, Qualcomm Incorporated announced that its subsidiary Qualcomm Communications SARL plans to open a new 5G research and development (R&D) centre in France. The new centre will be co-located in Lannion in Brittany and Issy-Les-Moulineaux in the Paris-Region.

  • The new internal R&D facility joins Qualcomm Incorporated’s extensive R&D network and will play a key role in Qualcomm employees driving the development of 5G locally, regionally and globally.
  • Qualcomm Communications SARL has been working with the French Government to augment Lannion as a leading telecom engineering hub and retain top talent and technological expertise in this area.

Jan 2021: Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Amazon announced the companies’ efforts to pre-integrate the Alexa Custom Assistant with the Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platforms. This new system is designed to support automotive OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers to build customizable, in-vehicle intelligent assistants and is offered as an extension module to the Alexa Automotive Software Development Kit (SDK).

Dec 2020: Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. announced collaboration with Google to enhance and extend Project Treble with the goal of enabling more devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platforms to run the latest Android OS.

Dec 2020: Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., LG Uplus and LG Electronics announced that they have successfully deployed South Korea’s first 5G mmWave network using a commercial 5G smartphone at the Kumoh National Institute of Technology (KIT). The 5G mmWave network will enable new, innovative services for KIT employees, professors and students, showcasing the technology’s ability to power a Smart Campus model that will transform education.
