Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest maker of NAND flash memory chips will increase investment at its chip plant in China by $8 billion to increase the production of NAND flash memory chips. The company had announced that it would invest $7 billion over three years in its Xi’an plant in Shaanxi Province to produces NAND flash memory chips in 2017. Samsung’s NAND flash memory chips can hold data permanently and are used in mobile devices, memory cards, USB flash drives, and solid-state drives.
Considering that artificial intelligence (AI) has arisen as a leading global future technology trend, Samsung is planning to expand its AI segment. The company currently maintains seven AI centers in the U.K. (Cambridge), South Korea (Seoul), the U.S. (Silicon Valley and New York), Russia (Moscow), and Canada (Toronto and Montreal).
